The COVID-19 crisis has made all business owners stop and think about their business. And their future. We think there are three opportunities that you could take today to improve your future and that of your business.

Opportunity One: Take time to think clearly

There is a well know phrase that what got you to where you are now, won’t get you to the next stage of your business. That has probably never been truer.  The world has changed.

And after watching the news and scrolling through your favourite social media channel, it’s tempting to feel that we’re all doomed and make a knee jerk decision about your business.

It is true that for many of us the business landscape may never return to its former state. But now is not the time to give up.

Instead this period as an opportunity to reflect about what you want your future to look like. Even the most successful of businesses can be improved.

Remember the initial vision for your business. What changes can you make now to ensure you achieve it?

But don’t make decisions based on fear. And in isolation. Talk to experts and people that have already done what you want to do and get their advice. We’re giving away free Strategy Sessions to anyone who wishes to talk about how they might take a different approach to their business and would like commercial advice. To request a call click HERE.

It is a time for clear thinking and making wise decisions.

Opportunity two: Take time to talk

When you’ve got a lot on, a lot of plates to keep spinning, it’s easy to forget to communicate.

But at the moment keeping in touch is more important than ever.

Staff – schedule regular updates. Even if it’s bad news. Your duty of care is strongest to them.

Customers – it’s not their job to contact you. It’s your job to communicate with them. Tell them what you can do, what you can no longer offer, changes that you are making to your products or services, new opportunities. During these troubled times, reputations will be made and lost.

Suppliers – there will be some who are important to you. Again keep in touch. Tell them your plans, share your problems and ask for their help with your pain.

The regularity of communication will be specific to your business. For example one business we work with is still having a weekly conference call with their furloughed staff.

Opportunity three: Take time to remember your worth

Don’t let this COVID-19 crisis devalue your proposition. Remember your worth, the value that you deliver to your customers and the part that you can play in their ongoing success.

That is why you must be clear on your vision, your value, your worth.

In business you need to keep moving. To quote Mikhail Gorbachev “If you are not moving forward, you are moving backward.”

And now it’s even more important than ever to evolve, develop and innovate.

Don’t be fearful. With any huge and sudden changes, there are opportunities.

But you need to look for them!
